Destructive, lethal and vicious...!
The home season began for Indian cricket team with lots of predictions that Indian spinners will dominate on what are supposed to be predominantly good wickets for the spin bowlers. Also, with R. Ashwin expected to play alongside Ravindra Jadeja, one would have definitely expected that the duo will continue their fairytale run on the home soil. And the same seemed quite true in the first inning itself where Ashwin grabbed a handful of scalps.
But in the second innings, Mohammad Shami came up with something special. He kept the ball within the wickets, he reverse swung it both sides at decent pace and took a fifer.
Well, one would say it was a tired pitch, it had cracks on it, ball was keeping low that's why Shami was successful, but he proved them wrong in the second game as well. Shami, leading the attack along with Umesh Yadav ani Ishant Sharma did some serious damage to South Africa. South African batsmen seemed to have no clue against the new ball which was swinging and seaming viciously. Perhaps, they would have come prepared to battle it out against quality spin bowling. But their techniques were exposed too early in their inning against high class fast bowling. Umesh Yadav, who was one of the important parts of india's home season triumph a couple of years ago, showed why he was rated one of the better fast bowlers in Indian conditions. He was as fast as usual, but he was much more accurate, his length was consistent, he used the new ball considerably well to get rid of the top order in no time. And with the old ball, Shami came all guns blazing. Breaking important partnerships, using the reverse swing , he displayed tremendous skill and control. Ishant on the other hand, who was one of the most consistent performers overseas looked a bit Innacurate and out of form, and as a result was left out of the side for the next game. The pitch in the third game at Ranchi was expected to be a rank turner, causing India to go with three specialist spinners. But guess what, the lethal duo of Shami and Umesh with the new ball rattled the South African top order completely. Even the great Sunil Gavaskar was in awe when Umesh Yadav got Decock out on a bouncer. Same happened in second innings also. The proteas had no clues against the Indian fast bowlers. They were rattled by shear pace, skill and some highly accurate fast bowling. The series is expected to conclude tomorrow. And the most noticeable fact in this series has been our fast bowling. They have allowed the spinners to bowl to middle, lower middle order, getting through the top order more often than not.
Jasprit Bumrah, who's been portrayed as one of the best fast bowlers recently is not missed. And this indeed is a big achievement for the whole bowling unit. We have that quality bench strength in our fast bowling. We have a lot of options to choose from. And whoever play, they are performing their best for the side. We have a problem of plenty to choose from which is a good problem to have for a captain. Many of the legends are saying that this is by far, the best unit of fast bowlers India has ever produced. Many are comparing this with the legendary West Indian attack in the 70's and the mighty Australian attack in early 2000's.This really is a very big complement. From the last couple of years, India is the number one test side in the world and one of the strongest reasons behind it, are the Indian fast bowlers.Destructive, lethal and vicious...!
